The D.F. Plett Historical Research Foundation and the Chair in Mennonite Studies is pleased to host Helen Khodencho from the Dnepropetrovsk National University in Ukraine. Helen is a graduate student in History and is visiting the University of Winnipeg to further her research into the adaptation of Mennonites to the Canadian Prairies. Helen is particularly interested in how Mennonites transplanted their religious, cultural and economic structures and how they changed and adapted them to a new political and social landscape.  Helen’s supervisor is Professor of History Svetlana Bobyleva who established an Institute for Ukrainian-German Studies at the Dnepropetrovsk National University in 1997. She has also edited a volume of Ukrainian Mennonite village histories.  

During her time in Winnipeg Helen will also visit the Mennonite historical and cultural centers located in Southern Manitoba, including the Mennonite Heritage Centre Archives, the Centre for Mennonite Brethren Studies and the Mennonite Heritage Village Museum. Helen will be in Winnipeg for the month of September, 2010.
